I have a 2001 F250 with a V10 with only 98k miles.  I have the transmission replaced at 45k because it stop shifting. NOW it is leaking trans fluid (spraying).   Has anyone out there had a similar problems with this truck.  I am wondering how a signature truck of FORD could go through two transmissions in under 100k when I do not tow that much nor push snow.

Thanks,
Ben

Spraying from where? It could be something minor. At least until you
drive it with it low on fluid.

Do you have oversized tires with 3.73 gears? If so it can be very hard
on tranny at times. I siggest you add a aux tranny cooler because you
are likely slow cooking it.

I just got my truck back from the shop, it needed the torque converter and
transmission pump replaced.  Lucky, I had the 100k warranty and this was
covered.  I still find it very strange that this truck seems to be having so
many problems with the transmission.  oversize tires,  the original
LT235/85R16 are still on truck, I was thinking of going one size up, is this
what you would be considering oversize?

What axle ratio are you running now, a 3.73?  Aslo you you have a aux
tranny cooler. Bad converters are usually the result of a hot eunning
tranny.

yes I believe it is 3.73.  They told me that there is no other problems.
The deal with the torque converter is it is a reman part that was replaced
when the trans was replaced.  I can not believe FORD puts these crappy parts
on and expects us to buy a FORD again.  Needless to say I am very unhappy
with the way FORD and the Dealership are handling this problem.

You bought an extended warranty, regardless of what manufacturer you need to
read the fine print, FoMoCo, GM, Toyota, and Honda as well as "aftermarket"
all offer different extended warranties and some of them(warranties that is)
will tell you reman or new is up to their choice.
The "aftermarket" or "independent " companies I always hated dealing with.
worse than a HMO.

Well I would like to say that it is not generic.  My '99 V10 has 100K
miles and I pull a 14K lb 5th wheel.  Nothing has ever required the
truck to be in the shop.  The tranny works hard not only with the 5th
wheel, but I live in the mountains and it is always in lower gears up
and down hill.
