Shock recommendation

I have a 97 Ranger 4X4 and I am in the market for new shocks.Anyone have
any good or bad experiences.

How the vehicle is used might be useful info before making recommendations.
The shock best for a daily driver highway and boulevard cruiser is not the
same as the heavy off road use, always carrying a load recommendation.

I purchased some new/oldstock original Ford shocks on Ebay and was much
happier with them than the Monroe shocks from the parts store.

I installed some Edelbrock gas shocks about a year or so ago and now it
feels like I have no shocks at all.
And they weren't cheap.
