I have a 4cyl. 2.3L Manual 1996 Ranger, It has 110,000 miles and
a couple of days ago a "rattle" started coming from underneath the
truck. It rattles when I start it up, when the rpms go up and then
sometimes after I switch gears. The truck runs fine and the noise is
more annoying than anything. Is something loose? It sounds like two
pans rattling against each other and it seems to be coming from under
the front of the bed just behind the cab. Any ideas? Thanks in
advance

heat shield on the exhaust. Get under there with your fist or a rubber
hammer. You'll find it.

Yup. More specifically, the heat shield on the cat converter.

Is something loose??? Yes, otherwise it wouldn't be rattling.
Any ideas??? Yes, it's a heat shield on the exhaust.
