2001 Escape headlights flashing

Hi group,

A friend of mine at work is experiencing some strange behavior from the
headlights on her 2001 Escape, and I was wondering if anybody here may have
seen this issue before.

This problem first surfaced a couple of weeks ago while driving in
daylight, when a pedestrian on the street asked if she was aware that her
headlights were flashing on and off.  Since that time, she has noticed the
headlights flashing on several occasions when pulling into parking spaces in
front of plate glass windows, where she can see the relection of the front
of her truck as she drives in.  I'm aware that the headlights are normally
turned on when the ignition switch is turned on, it's the intermittent
flashing on and off bit that I'd like to get figured out.

She says that the headlights are flashing on and off roughly once per
second, and this problem seems to occur only during the daylight hours when
the headlight switch is in the "off" position.  The headlights function
normally after dark when turned on with the dashboard switch.

One more clue appeared yesterday when she was parking in a spot up
against a concrete wall.  She noticed that the headlights immediately
stopped flashing when she applied the parking brake, suggesting that the
parking brake switch is somehow involved in the guilty circuit path that is
causing this behavior.

Any opinions or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Ken

Thanks Whitelightning, and thanks for the fast reply.  Where-abouts on the
truck is this relay located?

Cheers,
Ken
