I have been looking at a 65 F-100 with a 352, 4-speed ... I would like
to put a 66 289 in it - does anyone have info on this swap (what would
be needed?) Thanks!

bell housing, flywheel, clutch, starter and motor mounts. Advanced adaptors
used to make
a motor mount set up for this swap, but I havent checked in many years. You
may have to do
some fabrication. another issue is going to be the tranny mount. My Ford
Falcon Van from that time span
the tranny just hung off the bell housing, the bell housing had two mounts
on it. If thats the case
with yours than your looking at a a universal cross member install, and a
tranny swap as well. Of
course if your looking to make a cruiser, and not a working turck, might as
well toss a C-4 in it..

This is not a good swap for several reasons. First it is not a bolt
in, the 352 used a FE pattern bellhousing bolt up, the 289 used a
early Windsor pattern. Next the 289 would have a LOT less torque and
performance would suffer from it. Also, no 289 had hardened valves and
seats so it will suffer from unleaded fuel and more so because it
would have to work harder replacing the 352. A 332, 360, 390, 427 and
428 would bolt up to your current bellhousing. Unlike chevy, ford
used a bunch of different bellhousing bolt patterns while chevy did
not and likely on reason why engine swaps in chevies became so popular
because you could take out a 283 and bolt in a big block or remove a 6
and install a V8.

Nope, you'd ruin the truck doing that. Put in a nice fresh 390, (or even a
428 if you can find one) and it's a bolt in job.
