Hi All,
Replacing the clutch on an 89 F150 6cyl. I've got all the bellhousing bolts
out, starter, driveshafts etc. Trans doesn't want to seperate from engine.
Before I break something, am I missing something? Got jacks under motor and
trans and rocked everything side to side and up and down but it won't
seperate.

Are you sure you have all the bell housing bolts out? There usually is a
dowel pin between the two, so you have to separate them by pulling them
apart front to back.

hook the clutch release system back up, slip the rear cross memebr in place
to
support the tranny install to bolts in the bel housinbg at least 2 inches
longer than originals
and step on the clutch pedal. Or have someone step on the pedal while
you rock the tranny supportuing it by arm strong instead of the cross member
to catch it.
Then when its loose disconnect the clutch release system again.

I'll have to try that one if I do this again....
Got the new clutch in and checked all the linkage. Bracket under the dash
was cracked in half and rod holes was elongated almost 3/4". Tried welding
it together but couldn't get any filler to stick to it. Called junk yard
today. Asked the owner if clutch was slipping or dragging and he assured me
it was slipping bad. It was in ruff shape plus there was a nose of a starter
in the bellhousing so hopefully I didn't waste my time and his money.

Problem was likely the guide pins in the bell housing that are made of
steel. The housings are made of aluminum, and since that area is
often exposed to moisture the galvanic corrosion occurs. Just use a
pry bar to pull it apart and remember to clean those things up before
putting it back together. Makes it easier to fit it all together.
