Does anyone know what the lift laws are in Canada? I was told today at a
road block that the law states a vehicle can not be modified at all!!

Can someone shed some light?

I don't live in Canada, but that sounds stupid...I know a number of Canadians
with heavily modified off-road vehicles.

Depends on what province you're in, each legislates their own highway laws.
I'm Alberta and the laws are pretty lax here. As long as you're headlights
are within 1.4m from the ground, and you have mudflaps on the rears to at
least half way down the tire, and a functional e-brake, you're laughing.

I'm in New Brunswick. And the problem is not so much with lift kits but any
aftermarket part. They only knew I had a lift because of the red parts under
my truck. The truck is only lifted 3.5".

This would mean that 90% of the cars at our car show this weekend are no
longer legal for the road.

I think they might be referring to the bumper height regulations designed to
protect people in ON ROAD collisions. A safety standard kind of thing, like
headlight aim. If the vehicle is OFF ROAD,  you can do what you want.

AFAIK safety and emission controls are regulated. After market filters are
the consumers choice.

There's no regulation for bumper height in AB, so long as you HAVE bumpers.
You can check it out here....

That¹s what I thought and if it was I'd be all right with my little 3.5 lift
but its with any modification! Doesn't have to be a lift kit any aftermarket
part... Not Legal!

Stop guessing dammit! :/ Go to the libray and read the law for
yourself, you'll be glad you did.  As much effort as you've put in
trying to "wring" the answer out of those here you could of read it
and been explaining it to us! :)  Really, read it, and you'll feel
empowered instead of feeling stepped-on. :)

People here (Pima county AZ) keep telling me "it's ag'in da law" for
me to leave my Border Terrier in my pickup.  They don't know the
law, they just heard about the law on the TV news. :/ I just wish
they'd friggin mind their own damned business. :/

Back in the 70's I had to license a dune buggy (shortened VW floor
pan with roll bars) I read the law and passed first time, I knew
-that!- law better than the inspector did at that point in time. :)

The Deputy didn't know sh.t about the real law, even tho he was the
one most vocal and sure about it.  The inspector and the deputy were
just people and nobody knows everything about anything.

Them being bureaucrats the situation can be worse in that there is
no business/money lost if they are wrong or spew forth with wrong
information, so there's not the incentive to "know and be right in
what you say" like there is in business.

And you know how business is right? :)

Come back here and explain it to -us- after you've read it and
interpreted the language etc ok? :)  No kidding, the post will be
cool because you will have read and understood all the loop holes
that were written into it.

All the laws seem to have a bunch of loop holes.  They were written
by lawyers and the laws are for the most part make-work projects for
fellow lawyers in the years to come. (?)

Well the laws sure as heck aren't about truth and justice. :)
If you think so, you have been reading any yourself have you? ;)

Go man go, you can do it! :)

Boss,
Are you very young or very naive? Come on now bro. You can do whatever you
want to it as long as you follow a few simple rules.
red and yellow lights go in the back and white and yellow on the front (
that means no blue lights green lights any where as they are reserved for
government vehicles). The other simple rule is emissions. Don't do anything
to take away from the emissions capabilities of the vehicle. Even then in
most provinces other than BC and Ontario they don't really enforce that.
You can lift your truck to a maximum height of 4.15 metres if you want (
around 13.7 feet) . Oh yeah and your tires cant stick out more than 2 inches
from the wheel well unless its factory.

that being said,
 regards

I wish on all the above (or below). Only repeating what was told to me at a
recent road block.
