thanks Tom.
If I'm not mistaken, my dentist used one of these last time I was there.
If you don't have a 'hook tool', is there anything else you can use to get
the knobs off?

A hook tool is like a soldering or dental pick with a 90 degree (or slightly
less) angle on the end. If you pull your headlight switch to the on
position, you'll see an open spot on the back of the knob. The point of the
hook tool goes in there to pull the small spring clip away from the shaft so
the knob will slide right off. Usually a lot of fun (he says
sarcastically)!!

Stanley (the screwdriver people, and other tools as well) make a set of 4
hook-tools that have the basic shapes covered.
Very handy addition to anybody's tool set.

I guess you could bend a coat hanger, then file a point on the end, it might
work. I haven't bought any in a while, but I can't imagine them being all
that expensive. Northern Tool online has a set of 4 for $7.99.
