Question:Ranger belt change

Greetings:
I will be needing to change the drive belt on my '01 Ranger in the
near future. Is this something that can be reasonably done by someone
with enough basic tool skills but minimal auto mechanic skills? I had
heard that newer vehicles have tensioners which can be loosened for
easy belt replacement. Also, any special tools needed?
As usual, thanks in advance!

Either a wrench or a ratchet will fit the tensioner....when the tensioner is
is torqued so it has less tension...the belt falls off....one of the neatest
innovations in a while in my book...

Thank you, John. Great site and info! Dumb question, does the '01
Ranger (3.0) have the torquing tensioner or the jacking screw?

You can bring 'er over and let me have a look or you can run down to the
library and look it up in Chilton's....

It is very easy. There is a belt map printed in the engine bay near where
the belt is. The tensioner is operated by a 1/2" Drive Ratchet handle or
Breaker Bar.

You will notice that some pullies are grooved and some are smooth. The
inside surface of the belt contacts the grooved pullies, and the outside
surface of the belt contacts the smooth pullies. The belt will only fit one
way AND conform to the guideline I just gave ...
