While shopping for trucks recently I heard it mentioned that Ford may bve
planning to discontinue the Ranger next year.  Any truth to this?  Will that
be the last good small truck?  I was an S-10 man for a long time, and I know
I was sure disappointed when Chevy discontinued the S-10.  The Ranger was
under serious consideration for the replacement for my small service
vehicles for my business.

Have not seen or heard any rumors that they will discontinue it. It
really does need a redesign though. I do try to keep up on the news, and
haven't heard anything.

I just asked my oldest boy who works at the local Ford dealer and he has
heard nothing about discontinuation of the Ranger.

My understanding is that Ford plans to discontinue the Ranger after next
year.

I did some searching and there are no official articles. Not saying it
will not happen. It is all supposition because of the closure of the
factory. Mainly reported in blogs. That doesn't mean the assembly will
not be moved to another factory. That is happened with other models. My
understanding is the new assembly line set up they have now is much more
flexible.
More than one line from the official articles I have read have different
models being assembled at the same factory.

The rumor I've heard--
The Ranger will have a major redo if it continues production beyond 08-09
models.
After all it really hasn't changed much for quite a few years.

And it didn't need to.  Its a good solid small truck.

You're exactly right.  I love the Ranger, and I DON'T understand Ford's
failure to market it.  With the economic and fuel price crunch right now,
the Ranger with the 2.3 engine is positioned to be a very attractive vehicle
if it were marketed well.  It's a great truck, extremely reliable, and
plenty powerful with the 2.3 even.  I'd much prefer the 2.3 to the 3.0,
actually.

I would go with the 4.0. but I actually need the power.  On the flip side,
when the kids are ready to learn to drive I'll be picking up a little 4
banger w/ 5 speed.

Ford has not yet stated what they will do.  They have decided to close
and sell off the property that the current North American production
facility starting this year.  They are building a new factory in South
Africa to build new Rangers targeted for markets overseas.

As far as using them for your business, the Ranger aftermarket is
quite large with a significant number of vehicles sold.  If you
looking today, I can't imagine any reason why you wouldn't want to
choose a Ranger, even if Ford is gonna discontinue them in the
future.  Great little trucks that can last a long time.

Yep.  My dad has one with way more miles than I put on a truck before I
trade them in.  I was all set to buy two of them, and ultimately I just
could not get a dealer to put the deal together right.  I went back to the
Chevy dealer I have bought my last five trucks from and went bigger instead.

I went to order a ranger friday in AZ and was told this was the last
year, they also told me that i would have to put down a 2500
nonrefundable deposit to build one since allocation was short ...So i
have to front $$$$$ ????Now ford has no small truck and I'm off to buy
a TACOMA Another ford customer bites the dust!!!
