I have a 1983 F-250 4x4 with 6.9 diesel.
Engine runs great but noticed the water pump has some play.  The pump
is not leaking yet but want to change it out before a problem occurs.
There are several brands of pump available.  There are both new and
rebuilt.
Which is the best and why?

New should always be superior to rebuilt. It isn't, but it should be.
