My 2001 E-150 transmission will not shift from 2d to 3d gear. It goes
into a free wheeling mode instead, and the RPM increases dramatically,
if you continue to try to accelerate.
Sounds expensive, of course. How potentially expensive are we talkin' here?

Or cheaper if you rebuild it yourself. You can get a kit for less that $150.
Lots of time and effort involved, though. I rebuilt a HydroShift (or
whatever it was) out of a '74 Nova years ago, and I'm not too sure I'd do it
again. Your best bet would be to call around and see what the locals will
charge.

I was a couple of states from home when mine went out at about 85k
miles...Ford just can't get it together on their transmissions.
The dealer didn't have a new one in stock,,it would have had a 123 month
twelve thousand mile warranty. He found me a rebuilt one from 'Victory
Transmissions' with a 75 thousand mile warranty. Cost me 2700.

I just spent $1500 out the door on my rebuild for a 92 Explorer. Don't
recall the transmission type but yours looks similar to mine. I then
spent $80 on the slave cylinder, and $120 on the master cylinder hosing.
Plus fluids.
