You could have one of two transmissions.  In either case,
give it a complete service including a new filter and
draining the torque converter.  If it is an AOD, make sure
the bushing for the throttle cable at the throttle lever is
not worn or damaged and, the throttle cable is properly
adjusted.  You do not have this if you have an E4OD trans.
If that doesn't do it, you are probably in for a rebuild.
There are no internal adjustments in either that do not
require rebuild.  I stringly suspect the oil seals are
getting pretty hard and leaky causing your problem as cold
operation problems are a classic symptom.

No way to know that on your trans or a brand new one.  If it
seems to be working OK when warm - and it were mine - I
would drive it and treat it with respect until repairs can
be made.  If it is that big a concern, you should have it
checked by a competent local trans tech to determine whether
something can be done to better ensure your trip will be
problem free.
