Ford Escort Electrical Question / Blower Motor

I have a 1994 Ford Escort. When I turn on the heater, I notice a drag
on the motor and the lights dim a little bit. This happens repeatedly
on a cycle, somewhere around 10 seconds. I still get heat, but it's
the same kind of feelind like the compressor is kicking in.

Does this sound like a blower motor? Loose ground? Voltage regulator?

I'm really not looking forward to replacing the blower motor if that's
what it is. If it's a ground, where should I start looking? If it's
the voltage regulator, how do I test it?

I had this issue when running in any vent setting EXCEPT floor only.
I'm told that it's intentional - the A/C compressor runs to help
dehydrate the interior.

By the way, does the A/C work properly in your car right now? In my
wagon, I observed the 10-second cycling you mention (and I heard a
relay or thermostat snapping somewhere behind the glove compartment)
but this symptom went away - or at least the cycle got much longer -
after the refrigerant was recharged.

AC seems to work OK. Didn't need it too much during this summer, but
when I did it worked.

I have a 94' Escort too. The AC is supposed to come on only in the
defrost position, which is all the way to the right. The AC is not used
for the other heat positions. I assume you don't have the AC button
pushed in. This would turn the AC on in all heat positions. I had a
problem with the electrical connector on the blower motor. The spade lug
terminal was corroded. You can find this wire connector under the
passenger side dash on the blower motor housing. Try disconnecting the
wire to see if the engine drag goes away. Of course the blower won't
work with the wire disconnected but it may help you to diagnose the problem.
