My girlfriend owns a Ford Escape 2002.  Last night it wouldn't start.
There were no previous problems.

When you turn the key, the engine tries to turn over, but won't.
Even when you give it some gas it just gives a very weak: Rrrr...
Rrrrr.... Rrrrrrh  (get the idea?)

Radio and lights work fine.  Battery seems okay.

Could it just be that the starter has gone bad?

Thanks.

Even though the radio and lights work doesn't mean that the battery is good
enough to start the engine. Did you try jumping it from another car?

Also, did he try to clean the battery cables and the cables going to the
starter? If these are corroded with, the truck won't start, either.
