2001 ford explorer starts beeping at start up then goes off.
the air bags are disconnected because of a conversion (dual steering
wheels). i just took it in jan. i think they reset some default settings
or something, but now i'll have to pay $87.00 for a diagnostic test.
anyone know how to reset?

As far as I know that beeping is normal. Its the system running a self test
on the warning system for seat belts and leaving your lights on after you
shut the key off. If that isnt the same beep, then you will have to get the
diag. test and verify nothing is wrong. $87.00 sounds like a reasonable
price if you are going to a dealership.

additional information:
in january when i took my car into ford, i had all the fluids changed e.g.
brake flush, transmission flush, master cylinder. could one of these fluids
be low and causing the abs to make the ding noises?

Nope, the ABS has nothing to do with the ding noise, it just turns the ABS
light on when there is a problem. Are you wearing your seatbelt? Cause that
thing will continue to ding at you if you dont.
Only things that have a dinger on them are:
1. Key left in ignition with door open and engine off..
2. Seatbelt reminder, if you dont wear it, it will sound, should go off
after like 30sec or so though..
3. Headlights left on with door open and key removed from ignition.
Thats it, that should be the only things with a dinger that will sound.

Check to see that both the ABS and SRS (airbag) warning lights prove out at
key on... if either of these bulb circuits is inoperative, a chime will
sound...
