Complementing the three-door Verve concept shown at the 2007 Frankfurt
motor show, the Verve five-door gives a good clue at what the next-
generation Fiesta should look like when it arrives in Australia around
2009.

The Verve and the associated Fiesta production vehicle it will spawn
are a crucial component of Ford's American operations. Like Australia,
Americans are downsizing as higher fuel prices continue to bite and
concern for the environment escalates.

Ford anticipates small cars will account for 45 per cent - or 38
million - of the anticipated 85 million cars to be sold in 2012.

As the sales of the higher profit trucks, SUVs and luxury cars decline one
should be prepared to see the price of small cars escalate.   Without those
more profitable vehicles to supplement the cost of building smaller cars, it
is inevitable.

It is hapening already, look at the comparably small price difference
between the Focus and the Fusion today as an example of what will happen.

As it is the Smart car actually cost more today than the larger more
powerful Focus.  The T-car MSRB is nearly 20K more than a CV, yet the T-car
costs only a relive few thousand more to build

If you doubt that, think back to the day when the smaller 4cy FWD Chrysler
New Yorker cost more than the large V8 New Yorker it replaced.
