Hi,
I'm hoping someone can provide some insight here. I have a 2004 Sable
which had a catalytic converter collapse internally in it at 115000
miles (thus no warranty). Needless to say the car did not run and it
was a fortune to fix it. My mechanic said there are two more
converters on this car. :-(. Anyway, we have this problem that seems
to crop up on hot days when the car is under a lot of load (air
condintioning, hill, etc.). When I experience it, it feels like there
is limited response to the accelerator pedal. I get about 3/4 pedal
travel and nothing happens. If I push harder, the car starts to speed
up, but very poorly. Then as suddenly as it starts, the problem goes
away and the car runs fine. This is the Duratec engine. My mechanic is
worried that one of the other catalytic converters is going. There are
no check engine lights when this happens (in fact, no codes at all).
Naturally this does not happen when the mechanic has the car.

Anyone ever hear of this engine having a problem like this. Any ideas
where to look?

For good measure, i would replace the fuel filter and the TPS.

I would also look very carefully at all vaccum hoses under the hood
for cracks and replace as ncesessary.

It could also be a coil pack or ignition module.
Failing when hot.
