Has anyone seen pics of the interior of the New 2010 Ford Taurus ?
Can anyone tell me why they made some ridiculous design on the
passenger dashboard.  Here is how Ford describes it.

"Mustang which inspired the double arched "eyebrow" shape of the
dashboard."

I'm shocked they did that.   Its really ugly and will turn many people
off completely from this vehicle.   It frankly looks ridiculous.

Industrial Designers are a strange bunch. I have not seen the pictures
so I can't comment on the 2010 Taurus directly. However given the
weird crap the Japanese seem to sell with great success, I can't
imagine it can be that bad. Surely it can't be as bad a the current
Toyota RAV4s or the prior generation Accords (vehicles I am very
familiar with).

OK, I found a few "official" pictures at
http://www.fordvehicles.com/2010taurus/?searchid=426441|28115800|205351739 /
http://www.fordvehicles.com/2010taurus/?section=4&img=1 ). I don't see
anything particularly ugly about the design. The interior look nice
and the dashboard design is just fine. I have to ask have you been in
A Toyota lately? For instance, do you think the 2010 Taurus interior
looks any worse than the 2009 Venza interior (see
http://www.toyota.com/img/vehicles/2009/venza/gallery/full/int_image_5.jpg)
or the 2009 Accord
(http://automobiles.honda.com/accord-sedan/interior.aspx)?

I attended a preview showing of all of the Ford and Mercury vehicles last
week at Dearborn with several of the partners from when I was in retail.
The only Lincoln there was the MKR two door coupe that has already been at
the various autos shows.

The 2010 Mustang is a real beauty and has many more options than are
currently available on the '09 models.   I normally do two years but I will
likely sell my '09 GT convertible and order a 2010.  The Fusion looks much
better than the '09, in my opinion, as well.

We did have an opportunity to drive the hybrids but not any of the other
2010s, but we got to sit in them, I think they look great.

I can not wait to drive the 2010 Taurus with the 330 HP V6, same HP as the
2010 Mustang V8s.  From what I'm hearing in 2011 the Mustang will drop the
V8 in the GT.   I wonder how well a FWD car will handle the much HP.   My
guess is it will be like the Jap cars, with the engine spun up to get HP at
the expense of torque at the proper RPMs

There's pictures from Ford here: <http://autoshows.ford.com/

You can't really see the interior well. The dash is different from the
2008 Focus dash, but it reminds me of it. It seems to have similar
electronic controls, like for the Sync(R).

got to laff that the original Mustang dash is called "iconic":  the
"twin eyebrows" of '64 were just a cheap way to disguise the Falcon
dash......mold a different piece of padding rather than tool a new dash.

So now they pay homage to it.....except when you pay more for the
premium interior you get that cheezie reflective facing........and you
can't read the gauges day or night, with or without MyColor.

Don't much like the new, curved tail lights.......but glad to hear more
options will be available, like maybe for another $1000 they'll put a
light in the glove compartment!!!!
Mike Hunter - 20 Jan 2009 14:32 GMT
That may be your personal opinion but apparently your opinion is that of a
minority.  Seems the majority of buyers like the Mustang interior better
than ANY other.  The Mustang far outsells all of its competitors sporty type
vehicles.   I own both a 2009 GT convertible and a 1964 and I thing both
look great.   ;)

My "personal opinion" is based on having owned a lot of cars, including
4 Birds and 4 Mustangs and currently an '06 GT convert.  (Vista
blue/tan/tan.......all options but trunk woofers......1538 miles so
far....don't want to get it dirty).

Obviously I like Fords,, and Mustangs.....and I like the looks or
wouldn't have bought the '06.  But the interior is a great
disappointment......especially in a $35,000 car.
Like, for that much, how about an inside trunk release?  I wanted
MyColor and a couple other items of the Premium package, but also had to
take that tackie silver dash cover (btw, don't use any kind of cleaner
on all that "brushed aluminum look" trim on the door handles, shifter,
etc.....it rubs off).  I paid like $100 for the "smokers set" and got a
plastic ashtray to put in the cup holder, and a lighter the dealer can't
figure out how to install.  They call that a "tilt" steering wheel?
What's it got, an inch of adjustment?  How about the interior
lights....one lousy dim light on the windshield  (even old Mustangs used
to have dome lights, underdash lights, map lights and door lights).  The
gauges are barely visible with the top up, and you can't read them or
the radio at all with the top down.

While I'm raving, a couple other favorites:  I paid $160 for the top
boot.....have you ever seen one of those?  It's a piece of nylon cloth
that you tie-on with straps  (and although they wouldn't let me order a
black top with a tan interior, the boot is black....nice).  And....the
exhaust system is stainless front-to-back, but when it arrived I found
that you have to pay the dealer another $150 to have the POLISHED ss
tips as shown in the brochure.

OK, just venting because I don't want you to think I'm a drive-by who
doesn't own one.  It's a pretty car, I like it.......but no value at
$35,000 - which used to be part of the Mustang equation.  And, gees,
they used to restyle cars every year and get the details right......for
as long as the new 'Stang was in development, you'd think they could
have remembered the light in the glove compartment - or that it's
helpful to see the gauges!

I get your point.  I have 6,000 on my 09.    How about a word of advice for
the next time you buy a new car,...order what you want?   Delivery time is
only four to six weeks.   Dealers do indeed tend to put all the goofy added
trinkets, to up the gross.

I always order my new cars,  That way I get exactly what I want and nothing
else.  For instance my '05, '07 and the '09 GT convertibles ha(d)ve the
Deluxe package rather than the Premier, because the only difference in the
two on the GT is the leather gut and the supper sound system.

Leather and the boot are free standing options.   I order the engine
dress-up, hood scope option for $200 and the leather for $500, without the
$1,000 expense of the sound system or boot that I do not need or want,
neither one of which adds to the resale value when one trades.    The GT
includes the shinny (not stainless steel) end tips..    As a result the MSRP
on my '09 GT convertible was less than 33K and I paid far less.

Note:   If you shopped Chrysler or Toyota convertibles you discovered they
run 5 to 6 thousands more, have only an anemic V6 six that is driving the
wrong end for a sporty car   ;)

Mike:  yeah, I always spec & order my cars.......which is dangerous
because I end-up ordering everything!

Sort of ticked-me-off:  I wanted the Vista blue with black top and red
interior (I never got over that combination on '55 ElDorados
!!!!!).......was not allowed to have it although it was a cash-up-front
order.  Am soooooo tired of gray or black interiors, so settled for the
tan......then was told I HAD to take a tan top.  So wasn't happy when I
saw that junkie top boot was black!!!!!!

With all my carping, I should add that the car is perfect:  perfect
paint, panel fit, everything works and is adjusted right, nothing loose,
etc., etc.  I still think that a lot of the anti-American car crowd
havn't had one since the days when you spent the first 6 months taking
them back to the dealer for warranty work to make them right.  My Taurus
and previous 'Stangs were likewise "zero defects" when delivered.
Mike Hunter - 21 Jan 2009 17:34 GMT
I'm nealy 83 and I have yet to see any import that was any better on average
than any of the other seventy or so cars I have owned.

My last import was a 1997 Lexus LS.   Since then I have owned six Mustang GT
converibles, as well as a 2000 Lincoln LS V8 that I bought along with the
1999 Mustang with the $25,000 I saved by NOT buying another Lexus LS.

Since then I owed a 2001, 2003, 2005, 2007 and my currrent 2009 Mustang GT
converible(s).  In addition I owned an 2002 Lincoln LS V8, a 2004 and a 2005
that I bought becuase Linclon was droping that RWD model, that I keep at my
home in Key West, as well as 2006 Lincoln Zepher and my current 2008 that
they now call the MKZ.   ALL of which were great cars.

I buy a new car every year and either sell my two year old car to friends or
sell, or give in some cases, to my children or grand children or relitives.
All thoes cars are STILL around and running great.    Not that the several
Lexus I owned were not, but the import dealers expect me to spend too much
money on cars that have shown to be no better than others on the market.

I have several collector cars, amoung them is a 1971 Pinto that also still
runs great, with nearly 300,000 miles on the original drive train.
