My 94 Town Car will shift in and out of overdrive for no reason. It seems to
be worse after several miles and is not speed related. If I shut the OD off
everything is normal.

Suggestions please.

Erratic shifting on such a beast is usually due to defective MLPS
(Manual Lever Position Sensor). Maybe $400 (too much) to replace at a
dealer. Not tremendously difficult as a DIY.

What controls the overdrive.  Is there a vacuum  sensor that could be bad?
It would seem to me the MLPS is working if I have no other problems getting
in the gear. If I am wrong tell me. I dont want to invest in a new switch if
that is not likely to solve the problem. The overdrive seems to be higher
speed than I remember. Maybe 40 mph.

Thanks for the suggestions.

The tranny and the "Compluter".

Not to my knowledge, but I'm not a hard-core tranny guy.

Can't tell from here.

40 sounds "in the ballpark" to me.

Additional opinions are likely a good idea.

Please to relate info i.e. mileage, tranny maintenance (fluid changes), usage (city,
hiway), any other problems, etc etc.
