We had so many problems with our Expedition, we filed suit with Ford, and
are getting a full refund.
2003 Expedition EB, 4x4, 5.4 V8
We had the rear end replaced 2x, and the clutch pack replaced once.
The sunroof leaks every time it rains, its been "fixed" by specialists
almost 8 times!
Shudder/Shake in steering wheel when turning.
A/C did not have any coolant.
Heated/cooled seats malfunctioned.
Reverse sensors malfunctioned.
All this for $46,000. If only we'd have bought a Mercedes...
Swanny - 10 Sep 2004 04:18 GMT
Yikes. Must have been built on a Monday.

I've heard that clutch packs are very common. I had them replaced on my 98
F150 and they need to be replaced on my current ride, 01 SuperCrew.

You might've had a chance to sue them. You're out of luck anyway since there
is no EB Mercedes. (thankfully) In any case, for your post to be useful,
you'd need to include the VIN unless you're guessing that all 2003
Expeditions are defective in the same way yours was.
johnnycyberpunk - 13 Sep 2004 21:02 GMT
We actually asked a lot of EXP owners if they had the same problem, most
said no, they were happy with the vehicle. All I was saying was that mine
is a lemon, and I should have spent 46k on a product that would be
reliable, and service persons would be helpful and polite. Not with
Ford...
The entire rest of my family are Ford truck owners, 02 Excursion TD, 01
Excursion V10, 03 Escape XLT, 99 F150. They've never had half the problems
we've had.

On the other hand - I have a early build 2003 XLT Expediton
now with 56k miles that has been very good (but not
perfect). Of course I didn't spend anywhere near $46K and I
am d*&^ gald I didn't wast my money on that MB wannabe SUV.

Ford and Mercedes are side by side. Check out the link...

Wow, it is so sad to see that Fords quality level has sunk
so low. On the otherhand, considering the source of the
"statistics" (Consumer Reports), they are virtually
meaningless.

I've got a 2004 Expy, Eddie Baur, best vehicle I've ever owned. My wife has
a 2002 Expy XLT. Like it so well, that's why I bought the 2004.  No problems
with either.

Should have bought a toyota instead in the first place.  In over 5
years, its yet to go in for anything at all (except the routine - oil
change, tires, etc...).

Ford - found on the road dead!  (or as in your case, sue the
manufacturer and get your money back).

My Ford has never had a major problem. To determine real odds of having
problems with a particular model, you need real data, not just a few
examples.

You have got to be kidding.  Surely you are not implying that
Toyotas never have problems?  Haven't you heard of Toyota sludge
(Toyota calls it gelling) problem that is destroying engines?
Every manufactures makes some on occasion that are not up to
snuff, that is why they all have a warranty.  Toyota does not
even build a vehicle that compete with the Expedition in size or
price.

Everyone has different experiences. I have been closely
associated with several Toyota in my life and they were all
rolling piles of crap. the closet Toyota to the Expedition
is a Sequoia, and it is an inferior product in almost every
way. I'd buy one of the obsolete GM SUVs before I'd touch
one of the over hyped, over priced Toyotas. The Armada might
be a good choice, except it is one cheap looking vehicle
once you set in it. I think Nissan spent all their money on
ads.

You can't blame the vehicle or the manufacturer 100% all the time, you also
have to consider the person servicing the vehicle, whether they know what
they're doing.  All it takes is a bad dealership to make your car go
patooey.

Exactly right. If these problems had been taken care of the first time, and
done RIGHT, the first time, there would be no lemon-law suit. We'd still be
happy owners of a great Ford vehicle. Unfortunately, thats not the case. We
were actually told that Ford knew about the rear-end problem, and were on
their 8th or 9th version of it. There were tech bulletins out for the
leaking sunroof. For whatever reason, our area dealers did nothing. (yes,
dealers - plural. we took it to 4 different ford "blue oval" dealers for
service.)

Yes this may be an isolated occurance, and everyone else has great trucks.
but this thread was started for anyone else with the SAME symptoms, so they
know they're not alone.
