1. engine temp gauge acting screwy- registers nothing, until engine is warm. then only registers when coasting or accelerating very lightly (like going downhill). 2. inboard lights dont work. all fuses good. when headlights are on, dashboard/radio/AC lights dont turn on. warning lights and indicator lights in dashboard still work. 3. rear wiper won't turn off. i had to pull the fuse to make it stop. any ideas? i dont know where to start. manual i have doesnt say anything about these kinds of problems. thanks, anthony >1. engine temp gauge acting screwy- registers nothing, until engine is >warm. then only registers when coasting or accelerating very lightly >(like going downhill). Sounds like possibly a broken wire somewhere. My Pontiac Transport used to register extreme oil pressure on decell - there was a broken ground wire that was supposed to connect to the engine block. Do your tail lights work? If so, check dash lamp fuse. If not check tail lamp fuse. If fuses OK, have you checked the instrument lamp dimmer? The old cars used to have a variable resistor - most today are transistorized - many of them are actually switch mode supplies, or choppers, while others are variable regulators (linear). They can and do burn out. What kind of manual do you have? The factory service manual, which will tell you where to start, is available on CD cheaply on eBay. |
