Heater Core
Removal
1. Remove instrument panel (04320); refer to «Section 01-12».
2. Drain coolant from radiator (8005) into a clean container.
3. Disconnect heater water hoses (18472) from heater core (18476). Plug
heater core tubes or blow any coolant from heater core with low pressure
air.
4. Remove four retaining screws and A/C electronic blend door actuator
from A/C evaporator housing.
5. Remove metal cover, disengage spring from heater core cover (18B300)
and remove spring from lever.
6. Note: Do not attempt to bend any part of the lever; it is brittle and
will break.
Gently depress locking ramp and remove lever from secondary A/C air
temperature control door end.
7. Rotate primary A/C air temperature control door shaft down, then
swing metal link and remove from pin.
8. Remove three heater core cover retaining screws and remove heater
core cover and heater core cover seal (18N267) from A/C evaporator housing.
9. Remove heater core and seal from A/C evaporator housing by pushing on
heater core tubes.

«REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»
1. Note: Removal and installation of the instrument panel (04320) is
best accomplished by two people.
Position front wheels in the straight-ahead position.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to «Section 14-01».
3. Unsnap and remove instrument panel insulator (046A24) from instrument
panel reinforcement (04545).
4. On floor shift models, remove console finish panel (04567) as described.
5. Remove two screws retaining instrument panel steering column cover
(04459) to instrument panel. Remove instrument panel steering column
cover by unsnapping from instrument panel.
6. Remove two screws retaining instrument panel brace below steering
column. Disconnect courtesy lamp socket. Remove two screws retaining
diagnostic link connector. Remove instrument panel brace.
7. On vehicles with manual A/C-heater, remove main wiring electrical
connectors and vacuum hose harness (19C827) from A/C evaporator housing
and blower motor (18527).
8. On vehicles equipped with electronic automatic temperature control
(EATC), remove theautomatic temperature control sensor hose and elbow
(19D888), two main wiring harness electrical connectors andvacuum hose
harness from A/C evaporator housing.
9. CAUTION: Do not use excessive force when installing radio removing
tool, as this will damage retaining clips and make integrated control
panel removal difficult.
Insert Radio Removing Tool T87P-19061-A into integrated control panel
face plate. Push tools in approximately 38 mm (1.5 inches) to release
retaining clips.
10. Apply a light spreading force on tools and pull integrated control
panel out of instrument panel.
11. Disconnect wiring connectors and automatic temperature control
sensor hose and elbow, if equipped.
12. On floor shift vehicles, remove six screws and console center finish
panel as described.
13. On column-shift models, remove four screws and instrument panel
finish panel (044D70).
14. CAUTION: Do not remove the steering column, steering wheel (3600)
and air bag module as an assembly from the vehicle unless the steering
column is locked to prevent rotation or lower end of steering shaft is
wired in such a way to prevent the steering wheel from being rotated.
Remove steering column assembly. Refer to «Section 11-04».
15. Remove screws retaining cluster opening instrument panel finish
panel to instrument panel. Carefully disengage end clips by pulling
cluster opening instrument panel finish panel straight out of instrument
panel.
16. Remove four screws retaining instrument cluster (10849) to
instrument panel. Pull instrument cluster away far enough to disconnect
three electrical connectors at rear. Remove instrument cluster from vehicle.
17. Unsnap instrument panel upper finish panel (044A90) from instrument
panel.
18. On autolamp-equipped vehicles, disconnect electrical connector from
light sensor amplifier (13A018).
19. Unsnap and remove instrument panel finish end panel from LH and RH
side of instrument panel.
20. Remove RH and LH front scuff plates and pull door weatherstrip away
from instrument panel.
21. Remove three screws retaining instrument panel to upper cowl top
panel (02010).
22. Working with an assistant, remove two screws at each end of
instrument panel.
23. Disconnect instrument panel-to-dash panel electrical connectors.
24. Remove parking brake cable and parking brake switch connector.
25. With an assistant, remove instrument panel from vehicle.

Once you do the job you will realize there is no need to remove the dash panel.

Boy, I hope so. It's just a matter of time for me, I'm sure.
What is a good stopping point, then? can it be "sneaked" out like the
Aerostar?

You will have to remove the glove box door. Then at the instrument panel ends
remove the fasteners and just lift up like you are doing a 80's to 90's crown
vic and support with a block of wood. This will give you more than enough
clearance to remove the heater core cover and slide out the core.

yes u will havbe to unbolt it and pull the passenger side forward
once you do one u will see why
