I found this item on Ebay that advertises an increase in fuel efficiency of
up to 30%. I'm not a mechanic, but figure if it sounds to good to be true it
usually is. Does anyone have any experience these things, or info if what
they say is true? Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks!
John

"You are bidding on 1 brand new Stainless Steel Vortex Generator designed to
fit the Vehicles listed above in the Title. If you have a different Vehicle,
please check our other auctions to see if we have one for your application.
This is a one piece Stainless Steel item, with no moving parts, no wires and
no power needed. This amazing little thing simply inserts into the intake
tube, and holds itself in place (no modifications necessary). Comes with
General Installation Instructions. This item comes with 30day moneyback
guarantee (if you don't like it for any reason, send it back to me for a full
refund of winning bid no questions asked). **This was specifically
designed to create a vortex (spiraling funnel of air) inside your intake tube
allowing the air to travel faster to your motor.**
This Product design has proven to give your car up to 15% more horsepower
at certain RPM points, as well as increase fuel effeciency by up to 30%.
Personally when i installed one on my vehicle, I felt a noticeable increase
in low end power and I saw a 25% increase in gas mileage (20mpg up to 25mpg).
With Gas being so expensive, this could pay for itself in no time with gas
savings alone."

If these worked, Ford would install them at the factory.

He calls this one an "Air Razor", and a "Turbinator" in other sales.

Note: "of winning bid".
You're still out the original $10 shipping fee, and now you have to pay again
to ship it back. Who's going to do that? Nobody, he hopes.
From the ad: "and I will refund your money (minus S&H)"
S&H ?? Shipping & Handling? What handling?
Ah, wanna bet he charges a handling fee for returns, you know,
for inspecting it to make sure it isn't broken, resealing the box,
putting it back on the shelf....

up to up to up to up to up to up to up to up to up to up to up to
Gotta love those non-specific can't-prove-it claims.
From the ad: "This item is NOT Handcut or Home made!"
He uses an electric saw to cut it out, not hand shears, and the workshop is
in a shed waaaaaay out in the back yard, not in his "Home", so technically
the statement is true.
Did I mention... crapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrap

Also the Tornado (which is carried in the Jegs catalog on page 113A,
and very likely the JC Whitney catalog.
Thing is, it's not totally false advertising.... it does create a
vortex, and just as a hurricane, typhoon, or tornado does, a vortex
will compress the air around the eye. If the air is compresses... in
essence, isn't that similar to what a supercharger does?
Oh, and there are many models depending on the make and type of
vehicle, so you have to make sure you bid on the right one, or it's
useless, or so they say.
And if someone is really interested in such a product, the really
should check out things like what the retail price is... nothing worse
than bidding higher than something can be bought retail, and that does
not include S&H.
Might also investigate what real mechanics say... Many years ago, my
grandfather, a professional mechanic, used to mix graphite into his
oil for his own car. I thought that was nuts. Years later, the oil
companies, Mobil for one, came out with graphite oil. What seemed nuts
to me turned out to be factual. Of course, now we have synthetic
lubes.

What a load of crap.
I'm not sure who is more to blame...the crook selling this crap or the
idiots that believe putting that restrictive looking cut up beer can in
their intake track is going to help airflow.
