Hi,

So, i went to change my oil today, and the bafoons at Jiffy Lube came
back to me, telling me they can't turn my engine off anymore. Odd, I
thought, since it's never done this before. but true, I can turn the
ignition to the "off" state, and the engine continues to run. The
ignition key 'feels' different, it definitely feels like something
isn't catching, a little too smooth. I can start the engine, no
problem, and it behaves otherwise fine. I'm assuming the one worker
somehow forced the assembly somehow. Any ideas, folks? This is a 1995
Ford Taurus Wagon. I now kill the engine by taking out a fuse.

thanks for any leads!

It's more likely to be the plastic linkage connecting the key cylinder to the switch. After it breaks you can "push" with the key, but you cannot "pull". You can let the switch dangle down under steering wheel to regain control, but I don't see any easy way to replace the linkage.

guys, thanks very much for your answers. it wasn't the switch itself,
but it was replaced regardlesss. it was the linkage, as Jack mentioned.
cost about 200, parts included to get fixed. now, sadly, i can't take
out the key with the ignition running. i'm sure that never was supposed
to have worked, but loved the "feature" ;-)
