My truck is getting gas and spark.  It cranks over but will not start.  I
did find the cigarette lighter fuse burnt out.  But i don't think that's
it.  Any comments??

What engine and how do you know those things?

Try this:

{I Assume you dont touch the pedal on start as you are NOT supposed to.}

Leave it alone a couple hours
Floor the pedal as you are cranking it, if it starts but runs rough
and/or rich, problem is likely the Fuel pressure regulator or ECT sensor
(or wiring) bad.

If no difference, pump the pedal while cranking.  If it starts, Engine is
trying to start too lean  but that's rare.   Could be bad FPR or pump or
blocked filter or water in gas.

If neither works but you're SURE you're getting both gas and spark, then
it's timing

I did already try pumping when it did not start.  I was doing about 50mph
and it just died.  Also will try checking fuel filter.  Do you know where
it is located?  How about FPR. Where's it.

It's a 2.3L engine.  I took a spark wire off and could see sparking between
it and metal while cranking.  I depressed the valve on the fuel rod and got
gas.  cranked it again, and got more gas when I pressed the valve again.  I
was driving about 50mph when it just died.  Was hoping it was not the
timing belt.  I want to look at the fuel filter when I locate it.  I did
try letting it set and then pumping while cranking.  Will try holding
pedal to floor next time.  If it's FPR or timing belt guess I'll let a
true machanic do it.  I only do a few things under the hood.  Could also
be the emergency sh.t off valve?  Supposed to have indicator light on
dash, but not there even when key is in on position.  Thanks

Thanks for you comments.  I took a look today and I can see under the
cover--it's the timming belt.
thanks

4 cyl or v6?
4 cyl may be timing belt
v6 i believe has timing chain.... not sure how do you know you have fuel
pressure/spark?
describe what you have done first

I took a spark plug wire off and could see it starking (to metal) while
cranking.  It's a 2.3L with fuel injectors.  I took the cap off the "value
stem" fitting next to the engine.  Gas spurted out.  I released all
pressure.  Cranked engine again, and there was more gas when I pushed in
the valve stem.  It was running fine before.  Not ruff.  It has always
started right off and I do not start with my foot on the gas.  In checking
all the fuses I found the cig lighter fuse burnt out. When I replaced it,
it burnt out right away.  I took the cig lighter out and replaced fuse.
Left lighter out and fuse is ok.  I think it's not related.  I was hoping
it was not timming belt.  I am going to try the emergency shut off switch
today, just in case.  The manual said a light should indicate this
problem, but I don't even see it with the switch in the on position.
Thanks guys for your input.

Thanks for the input.  I can see the timming belt under the cover.  It's
loose (broken).  Now I know for sure.  Thanks

Get a book or look it up on autozone.com > repair..

You will have to follow directions very carefully to avoid having to do
it over because you find the engines not running quite right.

Thanks, I checked it out earlier today and I can see that it is the timming
belt.  I can see under the cover, and it's very loose--broken.  Thanks
