I like to do my own oil changes. Anyone know where the oil filter is? Thanks
in advanced.

I can't seem to find the location of the oil filter as stated on my first
message. Can anyone help?

Hi,

I'm not sure where your oil filter is located but if you really like to
do your own oil changes it sounds to me like you need to jack up the
car and start looking for it. Your owners manual probably shows the
location. Please; when someone asks where their oil filter is located
and they want to do it themselves I'm more concerned about their
safety. Give me an idea of how you are going to start the first part of
this project? Jacking the car up and making it safe to work on. That is
probably the reason for the "Why?" comment... Gary doesn't want you to
get hurt either...

Well, that might be part of it, but I just don't see the advantage of
doing your own oil changes. You may have to jack the car up, it is a
messy bastard of a job, you end up with a pan full of oil to get rid of,
and you don't have a record of the oil change at your dealer. Often the
oil change is free or discounted, it gets you back to your dealer for a
quick inspection of your car, and it doesn't cost much, compared to the
hassle of doing it yourself.

I like to wash my own car, because I can do a much better job of it than
any emporium with their soap and paddles and bristle brushes and hot
steam. Washing your car gets you intimately familiar with every nook and
cranny, and leaves you with a sense of pride about your vehicle. And
it's not messy and there isn't anything to dispose of.

Oil changes, yuk. Washing and waxing, very positive experience.

Yo... JohanB...

"Did you actually look????"  <<<<<<?!?!?!? Was this really a question
from You? This person could be just like I and you were 25 years ago
just looking for an intelligent answer to a question. I think He or She
will do the task fine but it will be with help from the community not
from "did you look"... If you are short of keyboard time JohanB I can
set you up with a "Voice typing program"...

Fun is Fun.... Add Fun into your message but then get down to what the
person asked from the start...  Please;Please:Please.. let try to help
each other... That is what this forum is all about... I don't do
Churches, they are man made... I do GOD, there has to be one... Happy
Easter... You'll have to pardon me on the holiday as I do not believe
in it... Many do... That is ok... Hopefully we can try to get cars
fixed with "Wise" remarks and with some fun too... Hopefully... Can we
do it? Is it an unreasonable request?

Anyone have an idea as to where this filter might be located?
JohanB - 16 Apr 2006 16:34 GMT
The reason I asked is because its the first thing you will see when you bend
down on 1 knee and actually look under your car

I think he is just lazy

Thanks to all the replied. Yes I have looked, its a huge engine with little
room to even work on. You should see where the spark plugs are. Three of
them is facing the radiator and the other three is like under the car desh.
Not sure how anyone can get their hands to replaced them. Anyway I have
changed oil on many cars. Most of them are visible and are easy to get at. I
have never had to jack up a car to remove the filter. Anyway I have a
feeling no one knows. Thanks again.

Woo,

Don't take this wrong... We could all tell you where to find the
filter. We are more concerned with your safty in doing this job. In
many cars you "Will" have to jack up the car. I have known very few
where you did not have to do this. Everyone is here to learn, if you
can prove to me that you understand how to jack a car up or you can
find someone to do it I will find the location of the filter for you...
We are just concered about you that is all. Safety is #1 here....

Yo...

Lazy is one thing... Many people just don't have a tech backgroud. If
when someone comes to this forum and another member thinks that they
are lazy, is this a forum for someone to come for answers? The Answer
is No

Some people have no clue about what is under their car, they probably
should not work on them either and I agree. But if they ask we should
give the most comprehensive answer we can to try to help them out. I
give allot of credit to people that at least "ask" the question and
hope for an answer then I do for people that do not try. It makes me
very sad when I see a post like "he is just lazy"

JohanB, I have seen much better from you in the short time I have been
here.

The reason I asked is because its the first thing you will see when you
bend
down on 1 knee and actually look under your car

Yes, most people have no clue but they come here willing to learn...
Let try to help them... Allot will not be able to take on the challenge
but some will and that will be to our profit as they will come back to
our little forum in cyberspace... We will learn from all the things
that we have ask them to try.

Exactly,

If he drops the car on his head or doublle gaskets the oil filter its not my
fault

The 4.2 and 3.8 has been around for many, many years so maybe 75 % of the
people here know the awnser

Any takers ??????
