I bought a Scosche model fd134030b
complete install kit, so now I can install
a non-factory radio.

Has anyone installed an aftermarket
cd player/radion into a 1997 Taurus ?

Anything I should beware of ?

Thanks for your comments.

I haven't done it, but I've researched it. RTFM, & be careful running
the cables to the back - it's not real easy - a good portion of the
interior trim needs to come out.

Most 97 Tauri are not worth as much as the system you are proposing.
It's a very common, 10 year old car...

That year of taurus used a pod control surface in the oval climate
control section up front. The actual radio guts were in the back
trunk area as i recall. So, power, speaker wires, and antenna are
in the back.

As already posted, the actual radio device is in the driver's side rear
wheel area.

you will need to extend the radio's wiring harness (about 12 feet per wire)
to couple with the OEM harness connecter found in the rear under the panel.

This will entail the:

antenna lead
power antenna activation lead

constant 12v lead
switched 12v lead

ground

left front speaker (+)
left front speaker (-)

left rear speaker (+)
left rear speaker (-)

right front speaker (+)
right front speaker (-)

right rear speaker (+)
right rear speaker (-)

you will also need the adapter from the tiny antenna plug to the motorola
type the
aftermarket radio will have.

hope this helps, i added an add-on CD player to my wife's Taurus wagon, so I
needed to double the antenna wire
(to the add on and then back to the radio) but didn't need to mess with the
wiring harness for the actual radio.

Hope this helps, and good luck.....

yep, and after I discovered all that, and an install kit that costs $100
or some such crazy price, I put a CD changer in the trunk of mine. All
the wires are in the trunk including the antenna. Just had to run the
controller up to the front.

I just put an aftermarket radio in my 99 Ford Taurus.  I found the kit
on Crutchfield.com for 40 bucks tho.

There are many 3rd party changers that will plug directly into the
Ford unit, if it has a CD button on the control panel. No wires to run
at all. Just plug into the controller, and a power connection made
someplace.
