I put an Edlebrock water injector in my 70 Torino GT in the late 70's. It
had a red box that monitored vacuum with two fine tune pots to adjust how
much water was squirted over the top of the Holley 4 barrel that sat on my
351 4bbl Cleveland. I installed it more to reduce pinging rather than to
improve MPG on the 11.5:1 compression ratio engine. It reduced pinging.
Can't say much for MPG. Best I ever got with that car was 17 mpg. A friend
said in the 60's local street racers would soak their air filters in water
because they thought the water vapor would give them an edge.

Yeah, but he probably took off more slowly from stops, took his foot off the
gas sooner and otherwise drove better, because he expected to get better
milage.

To e sure, that sometimes happens, but IIRC, he was aware of that.
The concept IS proven, though... just isnt practical, esp in the upper
midwest.

I bought a new 1955 Buick Century that the dealer had installed a 'Mist
Injector.' That was supose to improve fuel mileage....it didn't. The only
thing it did for my fuel cost, was take $50 from me that I could have used
to buy a lot of 21.9 cent gas LOL
