99 Cavalier-need help

The LCD on the odometer has gone blank, so I have no milage visable.
Any ideas. Just before it went out the numbers were all scrambled.

Hit the trip/odo button a few times? that always seemed to clear it on mine.
Also check that the brightness level of the instruments is high enough?>
