Dome Light Always On

kreetz - 01 Jan 2006 00:19 GMT Hello,
I have a 1996 GMC Jimmy. A few days ago, the dome light would not go off. It usually goes off after about a 20 second delay, or when you turn the ignition key on. Currently I have the fuse removed, to keep them off. I have checked all fuses and all door jam switches. My next item to check is to see if it has a module for the delay. Does anyone know if there is a module, and if so, it's location?
Thank you,
Kevin
Tim & Linda - 01 Jan 2006 00:32 GMT If it goes off after 20 second delay it sounds to me that is the norm. My 98 Jimmy has a time delay on it, but it also has a by pass switch on the dash.

My 98 > Jimmy has a time delay on it, but it also has a by pass switch on the dash. What he's saying is that it *does not* shut the lights off after the 20 second delay.

2. On my 97, IF the switch by the cargo area light is on , and the gate is not closed fully, all the dome lights stay on. That switch (in the tailgate) failed. For a while, until I fixed it, just turned the switch on the cargo light to off.
You might check those things. .

Unless you want a dead battery, just take the bulbs out of the dome lights. This is a no-brainer. I'd rather have a car without a dome light than one that dont start. Besides for less than $5 you can buy a flashlight.
gobroncos - 04 Jan 2006 18:39 GMT After reading your response, its pretty clear who the idiot is.

My wife drives the vehicle. The dome light is a convenience. Using a flashlight is the lazy way out. I took out the fuse, so guess what? I don't have to worry about a dead battery. That's not my problem; "the dome light always stays on." I want to know why the dome lights won't go off, not use your "no-brainer" approach, and just remove the lights. I'll bet you're the kind of idiot that would replace the engine because the plugs were fouled.

She said that if you were a real man, you would have this fixed already. I am gave her my flashlight because you were too cheap to buy her one. I bet you're the kind of idiot that will replace your wife with a homosexual drag queen, because no other woman will have you.
By the way, your wife said that I'm the first man that ever satiafied her sexually.
gobroncos - 06 Jan 2006 12:53 GMT The only reason you gave her your flashlight, was because you couldn't get it up!

Consider yourself lucky that I don't know who you are. You're a fool! You don't even know who you're dealing with. Lucky for you. I did however report you to the Goole Groups moderators.
But, if you're brave (and I doubt you are), I'd be more than happy to meet with you, you know, to discuss just how manly you think you are. But because you hid behind a computer, you would never meet, and most likely you're not worth beating the crap out of anyway. Does your mama know you use the PC?
Good luck in life, sounds like you need it.
SgtSilicon - 10 Jan 2006 02:53 GMT I thought he was the clown (well, he still is) until I saw your response top it. You basically ask him to "bring it on" in a newsgroup. Then you talk as though you would easily hand him his a.s and that he just doesn't know who he's dealing with. Well, I have a news flash for you. You don't know him anymore than he knows you! Maybe he would mop up with you. You just really don't know, nor is it wise to suggest a fight over something silly goading like he was pulling.

He's a punk that would never reveal where he lives, or where to meet for such an encounter.
SgtSilicon - 12 Jan 2006 04:18 GMT >Yes, but it makes me feel better to get it off my chest. He's a punk >that would never reveal where he lives, or where to meet for such an >encounter. Well, just out "goad" him and don't let him get your "goat." I know it can have therapeutic value LOL, but it usually looks really silly to others to see (what is basically) a "my dad can whoop your dad" exchange. The reason I call it that is due to the similarity that it really isn't known usually which dad can whoop the other. Just like in here in the virtual world we don't know who can do what.
kreetz - 08 Jan 2006 12:18 GMT By the way stupid; if all this was true, then you can't satisify her either; because you won't fix it either, just give her a flashlight, because you're too damn lazy! Hahahahahahahahaha!
kreetz - 04 Jan 2006 22:05 GMT I have an access cover at the back of my glove box, behind that cover are three relays. Are you saying that one of those is the relay?

Also, I have tried the switch at the cargo light; still stays on. I also jumped the wires for every switch in all doors, and the light still stayed on, however they did slight dim when I made the jump, so I know it was trying to shut it off.
Merlin - 05 Jan 2006 01:23 GMT >-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- >I have an access cover at the back of my glove box, behind that cover >are three relays. Are you saying that one of those is the relay? Yes, one of those is the "delay" relay. After all doors are closed, the lights stay on for about 20 seconds and then go off. If the relay sticks "on" the lights will stay on.
>Also, I have tried the switch at the cargo light; still stays on. Paul - 05 Jan 2006 14:26 GMT Best bet ... Go to a big city library, and look up the wiring diagrams for your car. Todays cars are too complex for guesswork.
gobroncos - 19 Jan 2006 03:03 GMT Try the courtesy module (usually incorporated with the headlight switch.) These courtesy modules have IC's with software installed that doesn't lend itself to conventional troubleshooting to easily. The best way that I've found to troubleshoot them is to eliminate all other components that involve the dome lights, i.e.: door jamb interlocks, headlight/dimmer switch, and all associated wiring. Check them for short to ground, or short to voltage. Due to this method of troubleshooting, it only makes sense to obtain a courtesy module from the junkyard in order to verify your assumption. The good part is that there are only a few things that will illuminate the dome light; again, eliminate what u can, obtain the rest from the junkyard. Jim
