I have a GMC Sierra 5.3l vortec automatic 4 speed overdrive 2003 short
wheelbase pickup. I put a dubble locker editon possie rear end in with
4.10 ring gear & pinion in. I had a stock rearend and 3.42 gears. Now
when I get to 110mph or a 120mph (off road) I have vibrations in the
floor. I feels like it is in the drive shaft or trans. Could anyone
andvise what this problem could be? Before when stock I did not have
this trouble what is wrong? The gears where set up right and all new
seals put back in. PLEASE ADVISE IF YOU CAN HELP ME!

Greetings,

I'm no driveline expert, but it would seem that at the speeds you are
traveling you are turning many more RPM's with the new higher ratio rear end
than before so any vibration that may have been slight or unnoticeable
before will be mangnified now.  Of course you could also have an
out-of-balance driveshaft or tailshaft or something of that order
(especially if you use it off-road at such high speeds).

I'm sure someone here in the group can give you a more expert answer (also
try posting at alt.autos.4x4.chevy-trucks) but it seems to me that this
issue would most likely be user-induced.

Good luck - Jonathan

Thanks,  Johnathan I was told today the it might be in the dubble
clutch locking system at high speeds trying to lock up the rearend and
release it. If you hear any more information please advise, I'll check
the other location too on my two wheel drive truck.

Greetings,

There is a product that I believe you should look into.  Their website is
www.balancemasters.com and they have units for driveshafts (among other
things).  I know about them because I use them on my '95 Harley and love the
results I've gotten.  Just as a quick explanation, Balancemasters is a
simple disc that has a hollow rim filled with mercury.  When mounted and
spinning (like on a wheel or the compensator and clutch of my Harley), the
mercury acts like a fluid balancing weight and smoothes out any
out-of-balance condition and vibration.  Static balancing is only good up to
a certain point, but after that (like at 120mph) then even a little bit out
of balance can be magnified and become a problem.

Read up on their website - you just might want to give them a try.

Cheers - Jonathan

I'll bet you lifted it too, huh?

I have a hard time believing 120mph out of a 5.31 with 4.10 gears - on or
off the road, downhill with a hurricane for a tailwind.

Have your driveshafts balanced because they are not well balance from
the factory. (I do question the claimed speeds involved though because
it is likely that if it does in fact record that speed on speedo, it is
out of calibration))

Ok - so you like to be the big man on the block - you're entitled to that,
if that's what floats your boat.

Well now Mr. Turbo T, you  lost me.  A web link to a drag racing site - is
that supposed to mean something?  Hint - I've known about the existence of
drag racing for a few years.  Even did some years ago.  Still know some good
engine builders.  Funny thing - not a single good engine builder that I know
would have posted the question you did or made the statements you made.
Methinks you're full of bull.

> Maybe just maybe you
> and me can meet and play with a little pocket money!

Yawn.  You can't even put the truck together properly after a simple rear
end change and you're mouthing off about a racing wager?  I think you read
too many web sites.

Those of us that have been there/done that clearly have an advantage over
you.  We can recognize when a bullshitter is trying to foist one with the
notion that his stock motor is tooling his truck at 120mph with 4.10's.  Now
you're going to tell us that you did it in the quarter mile?  Hint - think
about your audience before making stupid claims.

As for replies - it's usenet fool.  Make a public post, expect public
replies.  Make blowhard claims and expect somebody is going to call you on
them.

Mike, look I'm tring to get answers for problems that I have with
drivetrains. The web site posted was to let you know in a nice way if
you can't top this type of vehicle don't reply. You still don't
understand and I can't speak for something you don't UNDERSTAND like
120mph. I can tell from your bullshit advise you can't understand the
question, if you don't believe it well I can't answer your question. If
you have a problem with me or my qustion please post your number and
I'll call you on my dime and tell who I am! And to end this idiot
conversation with your type of questions and beliefs. Your last
statement speaks for itself, "BLOWHARD" Look I'm not looking for a porn
site with queers only a site that will help me with driveshaft problems
not driveshafts you like up your rear!

My friend, I ride faster than that on my snowmobile.  Please don't try to
get one up on someone you know nothing about.

I've given you no advice, so there can be no "bullshit advice".

My email address is clearly posted in my sig line in every post I make.

Precisely the word that came into my mind with your first post, your second
post and come to think of it, this post offers nothing different from you.

You should have worked harder on that last thought - it failed you
miserably.

Yawn.  Such a pathetic attack.  Ok, you're going to implode here, so I'll
just say "you win" and hopefully you'll just move on back to your make
believe world where you can imagine your toys going fast like the pictures
on the web sites.
