Can someone tell me if changing the fluid and filter in my transmission
along with Lucas trans fixer help my peoblem? My transmission wont go in
reverse, and will shift into a higher gear if you run the speed up to
about 20 mph let off the accelerator, and then acclerate again. I've had
some people tell me it sounds like the belts in the trans, are slipping. I
just hate to take it to a trans shop, if something like that would fix it.
I have wife and kids, and funds are tight. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

Check the shifter linkage adjustment.

Doesn't sound good man. I wouldn't waste any money on the fluid change.
Sounds like a broken sun shell. Not sure on that with out looking into it
more. There are no belts in your trans. Maybe some bands. I would either
take the pan off yourself and look for any metalor take it to a pro and
get there advice. They probably would look at it for nothing and maybe
even pull the pan.

By this time - now that the problems have developed, changing the ATF won't
help. You can't fix tranny problems with new ATF. Forget the Lucas tranny
fixer junk. It's a marketing scam. Again - once the tranny is acting up
you can't just throw something in it (besides money) and fix it.
You should take it to a tranny specialist. You could simply have solenoid
problems which would explain why it won't go into reverse and why it skips
gears. That would be a cheap enough repair in the world of tranny repairs.
There are no belts to slip, so that advice is poorly grounded advice.
Wish there was a cheap miracle cure, but...
