The new GTO.

A subdued looking (OK, bland) Australian coupe launched a couple of years
ago in the U.S. with a really badly thought out name and zip advertising. In
spite of being a huge bang for the buck bargain (BMW M3 performance for low
30's prices) with the best interior GM offers in this country, the new GTO
languishes and goes away this fall.

So, NOW GM begins to run some really good TV ads for the new GTO. Just saw
one on Pinks and it is honest, well done, and effective. Made me want to go
test drive one. From having done this already, I know the test drive would
be very impressive. It is a GREAT ride.

So where were these ads two years ago when the new GTO was launched.

GM is run by mental midgets with a self-destructive bent.

M3 performance ? Not really unless you're at the dragstrip.

Yeah, really M3 performance. The current generation is quicker than an M3
and not far off the chase in cornering for $20,000 less. Go do some
Lingenfelter mods and you can go modded Supra TT hunting with the GTO.

Granted M3's depreciate VERY slowly, so in the long haul much of the price
difference disappears and you will end up with an orphan that MAY become a
collectable in the long run. Side benefit is that in a GTO you are in a
sleeper, invisible to cops and visible only to those in the know while in an
M3 you are in a vehicle widely viewed as a prick/jerk/ass-hole transporter
that draws cops like "merde" draws flies.

Anyway, GM blew it marketing a very nice car all wrong.
