i can't be for sure but i don't think 400 heads will work on the 305
...somehting about the 400 having a siamesed bore and steam holes in
the 400 heads ...along with valve shrouding issues .......they make
interchange manuals for fords Chevy's and dodges. you can more than
likely find this online in other car forums.

400 heads on a 305 is a BAD idea. If they have the large valves they may
not clear the bore or the pistons.
What was the problem with the old heads? Steam, Sucking coolant.
Describe the symptoms and someone might be able to make an educated reply.

ok....what happend was I put new valve seals on and after I adjusted
everything my truck wouldn't run propperly and it ran perfect before i
messed with it except for the smoke from my exhaust where the oil settled so
i was running it a little and adjusting back and forth until it was pretty
close to running wright then the last time i took the valve cover off I
noticed coolant coming from the second bolt hole used to hold the
valvecovers on thes are the covers that have 4 bolts in the center....
thanks for all the help
