My 98 Century was running rough.  Engine service soon light came on and
flashes.  Mechaninc says I need new injector for no 2 cylinder.  How much
should this cost?  Is there any other cause for these symtoms?  The car has
the 3.1 with SFI.  Thanks for any input.

New injector will cost around 60.00 at a dealership not including the labor
which will run about 170.00. I had the same problem with my 02 Chevy s-10
4.3 v- 6 vortec.According to what you describe here, that is the same
symptoms I had. The cause may be a dirty/ clogged injector. Every oil change
I run 1 bottle of STP fuel injector cleaner and that keeps me from having
that problem any more.

Injectors very rarely go bad.  How does your mech know its a bad injector?
Did he swap them around, pressure test, pattern test, etc???
It could be just as easily a bad plug wire.

injectors on the 2.8 , 3.1, and 3100 commonly go bad .....not because
of contaminates clogging the injector but because the coatings on the
copper winding inside the injector wear dropping the resistence of the
injector .  a good injector checked with a ohmmeter should be around
12.7 ohms .....a measure of electrical resistence.... anything lower
than around 12.2 is usually on its way to being bad...anything 11 ohms
or lower will cause a problem
