2000 gmc 4.3 cutting out

I recently purchased a used 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 pickup truck with the
4.3L engine.
Several times while driving, the engine hesitated for a second or two
and would then run ok, but on one occasion while on the freeway, it cut
out completely as if someone turned off the ignition,
After coasting to the side of the road, the engine would crank, but not
run. After sitting about fifteen minutes, it started up and ran ok. It
accelerated fine with no hesitation. Today, while driving in the city,
it cut out and I had to restart it while coasting down the street. It
then ran ok all the way home a few miles away. Any thoughts/suggestions
on this one??  I acts like it is ignition related and not a fuel / fuel
pump problem.                    Thanks , Dave

Have you pulled codes from the computer?

check fuel pressure. but a big problem gm has had on the new 4.3 liters
is the dist cap and there was actually a recall on it. if you pull the
distributor cap it will probably have lots of corrosion under it.

I did change the cap and rotor and it seemed to help a little, but
unfortunately the other night the engine quit completely and I had to
have it towed. I believe it may be a fuel issue. If I spray starting
fluid in the intake pipe, the engine will start and run for a few
seconds. Tomorrow, I'll see if the fuel pump is working.  Thanks for
the replies.

it might be a relay problem or some other thing. does it have a
distributor or seperate electronic ignition.

If you are sure you have a fule problem, it means bac ECU or some
sensors. you can bypass the problem by shorting fuel pump relay.

carry a thick cooper wire with you. It it does it again, try to short
the fuel pump relay. i bet it will run immediately. drive where ever
you wanna go and pull the wire out or the socket to stop and then, turn
the ignition off. Be use to use a relatively thick cooper wire. It will
keep you on the roads.

good luck.
