I drive a 1999 civic ex (5 speed). Are there any things that I need to
know before attempting to change the brakes. They are beginning to
squeel when I hit the brake.

also, my trunk area had a rust problem, right under the rear window. I
had it fixed before the rust warrantee had run out. Now, it seems that
the rust is beginning at the seam on the right side of the trunk under
the window. Has anyone else had this problem, and what did you do
about it?

and... the passenger power window switch does not work (2door model).

and... the plug in the console where I would like to plug in my
cellphone charger is hanging out the front of the console. Honda
dealer says $60 to fix it. Any other suggestions?

I just discovered this group. sorry so many issues at once.

Thanks_

Use OEM pads. Also you might peruse this article and some of the
preceeding and following sections:

Just fixed this on our 97.  Pull off the front of the console (gotta
remove about 10 screws).  Tighten the back side of the lighter
plug.  Reassemble.  Takes about 15 minutes if slow like me.
