We traded my Lexus RX300 for the TL and haven't looked back. For those
considering a luxury car purchase, look at the TL. It's still full MSRP
on the nav. packaged model, but we haven't been sorry for paying it (and
I HATE paying retail!). If you love gadgetry, this car is for you. If
you love power (270 hp), this car is for you.  We love it.

If there are any other owners of this vehicle reading this, please share
your thoughts/problems about this car.

TL SUX!

I'd rather wait for the '05 RL... V6 300hp! GPS with realtime traffic!!!!!!

91 or better. One of the few drawbacks...

I got the TSX NOT because it's cheaper but because TL is an American car,
designed for
(prbably by) American, built by American (Ohio).

And I swear off American car long ago.

How about if that Honda is made in Ohio ?

They may be assembeled there, but I doubt they have any say over the
design process.  Parts might even be manufactured there, but it's all to
Japanese specs.

Think it's more than assembly.

i was mostly swearing at the engineering and design, which affects build
quality. all done in detroit at the time.
JM - 05 Sep 2004 05:20 GMT

Oh, you are so kidding yourself.  Part of the engineering is in how to
actually build the car on the line.  And the rest is in the hands of
the workers.

Yeah, I bought an '04 Accord EX.  I have 102,000 miles on my I30t and
will be selling it in a few months.  I won't be keeping my Accord
nearly as long.  Maybe 70-80K miles.  Engine, U.S.  Tranny, U.S.
Content is about 70% U.S.  I just don't expect that much from the car,
and consider it to be priced accordingly (no pun intended).

The  reasons I bought it was the TL is ugly (IMHO), has twitchy
handling, and has a tiny trunk.  And only the low-end Accords are
imported from Japan, so that option didn't exist.

Japs don't show up hung over, on drugs, more interested in butts than
bumper covers, or put sexual harrassment suits above engine assembly.
They are waging economic war with the rest of the world and recognize
that perfection will prevail in the long run.

10 or so years ago, only the high end EX models were imported from
japan. when did that change? all the USDM hatches were made in canada,
which has even cheaper labor than the US or japan.

Infiniti, right? I recently picked up a '99 G20T and this thing has the
most comfortable seats! Was yours trouble free?

My son really wants a 6 cyl Accord but I can't get past the tranny
troubles. It's just too much, the complaints.

I don't want to turn this into a Infiniti love-fest, but yes, the
I30/I30t is made by Infiniti.

My 1996 was the most trouble-free car made that year.  Beat Lexus
LS400, etc.  Now, I hasten to add that Lexus was the most trouble-free
car line, but model-for-model, the I30 beat all other individual
models.  And overall, the Infiniti line was breathing down Lexus'
neck, so to speak.

My major troubles were:  a/c compressor failed at 22,000 miles.  Fixed
under warranty and they told me it was the Q45 compressors that
typically failed, while the I30's were considered bullet-proof.

Driver's power seat failed just inside warranty, and the track
mechanism was replaced.

Starter made noise and was replaced at 94,000.  The bendix had been
making noise for years, but I finally got tired of hearing it.  And
figured it wouldn't impress a buyer either.

Water pump failed at 95,000 miles.  A $650 repair bill made me
question the good sense of keeping the car a few more months.  That's
it, other than maintenance.

I would no longer consider a new Infiniti.  They are now majority
owned by Renault.  And, although Renault's management pulled
Nissan/Infiniti away from the brink of bankruptcy, they are French,
and that won't do it for me (politically speaking).

I am proud to declare that my only "violation" against that list is a
free subscription to "Road & Track" magazine.

I do relent and buy Car & Driver subscriptions for $4 a year.  And
those Michelin tires on my Accord and MDX made me cringe - although
I'm sure Honda bought them cheap.  Other than that, I am French-free.

I have an '04 Nighthawk Black Pearl TL.  To give you an idea of
how much I love this car, I traded in my '03 Nighthawk Black
Pearl TL-S to get it.  It's simply an exceptional vehicle.

I agree, it's exceptional! The black was our other color choice. We
opted for the Anthracite with Quartz interior, 18" wheels with
Yokohamas/brembo brakes lower body kit, lip spoiler, the whole shebang.
DANG! It's a looker!

The TL-S is a nice car, too. Did they kill you on the trade in?

The deal was pretty much what I expected.  Of course, due to a
down payment to make it so, the payments were extended at almost
the same monthly rate for a year longer and the trade in was at
the Blue Book value at the time.

Was it a 'smart' deal?  Probably not, but I really wanted it!

alrite, no flamming ya.....
I think TSX looks beat TL ! ;)
TL looks like a "rework" of the TSX masterpiece.
I used to like the "gutter" on TL sides -- but they look weird to me now.
(BTW what they for anyway ?)

And the dash ? oh baby TSX beats 99% out there !
JM - 05 Sep 2004 05:26 GMT

Well that is what really turned me off.  The gutters on a Plymouth I
had long along was where they put aluminum side molding on the high
end cars.  If you had the cheap version, the gutters were just there
anyway.

It gives the TL a very unfinished look to me.
