Does anyone in this group know if Honda is equiping it's vehicles with a
vehicle data recorder? If so which models have them?

Thanks

i believe anything obdc2 onwards has at least 30 seconds recorded.  more
recent ones are rumored to have more.

I've heard that it is tied in with the airbag system.  So one can assume
that anything modern with a 'bag' has one.

My understanding is that most cars do not have a recorder.  Some GM
cars do.  I don't think any Hondas do.

http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/edr-site/dataformat.html
Contains a presentation of a Lumina verses Civic crash recreated with EDR
data.

Other pages say that the Hondas record very little data by comparison to
the 30 second recorders found in "98% of new GM vehicles".  Ford seems to
use the same one.  http://www.harristechnical.com/downloads/cdrlist.pdf

None that I know of. You can buy them as an aftermarket item though,
if you've a teenage son whose driving habits you want to monitor, or
you're a fleet owner with drivers you suspect of being cowboys.

My Ford Escape has two.  It is clearly noted in the owner's manual.
One is associated with the dual-stage airbags, so maybe cars with
dual-stage airbags have them.

A Google shows plenty of hits for "Vehicle Data Recorder"
<http://www.thecarconnection.com/index.asp?n=156,173&sid=173&article=7224>
"About 15 percent of vehicles now on the road have the data recorders, and
NHTSA says between 65 percent and 90 percent of 2004 vehicles have some
sort of recording ability. "
