Honda accord 94 automatic.

When I put my gear into Drive, I notice that it takes about 3 seconds
before the car starts to move forward.  At this stage, I haven't
stepped on the accelerator pedal yet.

Is this the start of a transmission problem?  I've already had trans
fluid replaced last year.

Or is this something normal?

I know that Odyssey in the '95 - '99 (had 2) vintage often do the same
thing. All you can probably do is be sure it gets regular changes of
Honda Z1 ATF. Since 'changing' the tranny fluid only changes a portion
of it, it would be a good idea to do it more than once. What mileage, BTW.

++++++++++++++++

Sorry, that should read '95 thru '98. . . . . the '99 was the 2nd
Generation.

How do the shifts feel when you drive it?  I had a 2000 Civic that used to
kick a bit in second gear when I slowed down for a turn then gave it some
gas.  When I took it to the dealer for them to check it, they diagnosed that
the tranny was slipping based solely on the fact that it took a few second
for the tranny to engage when put in drive, which sounds a lot like what you
described.  keep in mind however, that my Civic had 83,000 KM on it and was
still under warrantee so they may have replaced my tranny just to prevent
future problems and to keep me happy since Honda Canada was footing the
bill.  I'm not qualified to determine if it really needed replacing or not.
As long as the tranny doesn't kick or shift roughly I wouldn't worry too
much about it.  Just make sure you only put the recommended Honda tranny
fluid in it at the regular change internals.  If you start to notice rough
shifts or kicking, then I'd have it checked as soon as possible in order to
minimize the repair costs.
