OK I have read a few posts about cleaning the IAC valve. They have also
stated that the hoses should not be removed. Can I ask why since I went
ahead nad removed them?

You didn't specify year / model etc. My IAC valve has one coolant hose
going to it (the return is directly to the manifold, no hose). I can't
imagine what harm can be done by disconnecting the hoses. The only thing
to be cautious about is air pockets in the cooling system, on some
Hondas it can be tricky to bleed the cooling system so it is free from
air pockets. When the car heats up, are the hoses to the IAC valve hot?
If so, you should be fine.
Then again, not knowing what car you have, the above could be utterly
irrelevant to you.

My car is a 93 accord AT 10th anniversary addition. Seems to be running
OK and I have been keeping an eye on the temp. After reading many posts
on rough idling i went ahead and cleaned it out. Did the usual, new
spark plug and wires, distributor cap. After cleaning out the IAC it
does actually seem to run a little smoother. I guess the next step is
to check the motor mounts?
