accord dx 94, automatic.

I noticed a "kick" during the acceleration.  Normally, it's a smooth
upshift, but now, I've noticed the "kick".  Any accord owners
experience this
and what should I tell the mechanic to look at?  I've had my
transmission fluid
changed last year.  I've also had my starter replaced about 6 months
ago, so
could that be related to the "kick"?

Please define 'kick'. What happens? Do you mean the engine over-revs a
bit while trying to get into the next gear? That's called 'flaring'.

If so, you probably used non-Honda tranny fluid last time. You'll have
to drain it, refill with Honda z1, drive it a few days, and do it again.
The amount of metal on the magnetic drain plug will tell you a lot,
since it was cleaned off only six months ago.
