We bought a 2000 CRV for our daughter and we all love the car. She
doesn't turn 16 until the end of the month and I have been driving the
car more than my truck. We had a significant ice storm and a couple of
snow storms and the CRV has performed fantastically in ALL of the bad
weather we have put it through. I have always been a 4X4 truck fan for
ice & snow but now my wife and I are thinking of buying another CRV for
an around town car and to use in the winter months.
My question:
Several times I have been talking to people about all wheel drive cars
and have said how well the CRV's real time 4X4  works. A friend told me
that the Subaru's have the same system as the CRV. Another friend said
that the Subaru's use all wheel drive that are in use all of the time
and use more gas.
What is the difference between the two systems ???  Which is better??

Start here in these articles about CR-V's system:

You'll get slightly better mileage from a 2WD CR-V, since it's a 1000 lb
lighter, but sucks in snow :-) (or the newer series with iVtec)

Can't comment on Subaru, ( I think it's more like full-time) but you can
find that answer here, if you sign in and SEARCH
