Hi, I had a 97 5spd EX that got totaled and it started doing but did not
have enough time to investigate it. I just bought a 96 EX 4cy auto today. My
ABS light stays on and makes a funny noise for about 5-10 seconds and the
sound goes away but the light stays on. Does anyone have any info on this.
Is there a fuse I can unpug to make the light go away and turn off ABS. ANy
info is apreciate it. and thank you all in advance.

why don't you just run the codes on it and find out what is wrong?

The noise is the pump trying to pressurize the system.  It will try several
times over a period of a few minutes, then give up and turn on the light.

The light being on signals that the system has turned itself off.  The only
way to get rid of the light is to tape over it or remove the bulb.

If you short the SCS connector & switch the ignition to position II, it will
blink out a trouble code on the ABS light.

there's air in the ABS modulator. the code is more than likely a "pump
over-run" code. i think its a 3-1. it needs to be bleed. if you bleed it and
it keep doing the same thing, get ready to spend some money.

'96 has a visible fluid reservoir on the ABS.  Is there anything in it?  If
its empty, then the air diagnosis is probably part of the problem.  Fill it
with brake fluid.  Much more likely that it can no longer maintain pressure.
Very expensive to repair (> $ 1,000) and not really worth it, since the main
brakes will continue to work as if it never had the ABS option.

If you want to make sure, short the SCS connector and turn the ignition to
position II (warning lights on - but don't start the engine).  It will blink
out a trouble code on the ABS light.
