OK.

I love my 96 Civic Coupe. It has been good to me and I have been good to it.

But what the %$#& is up with wipers???????

I can't seem to find a set that ACTUALLY WORKS for mor than a month or two!

I have tried almost every brand and they ALL SUCK.

Streaks, smears, chattering, tearing, you name it.

PLEASE   PLEASE   PLEASE

What brand of wipers will WORK for more than a month or two on this car?

I just use Anco, but I am careful to clean the glass first.
Is your windshield speckled or pitted? That will eat the blades very
quickly.

Also, when washing the glass at the gas station, clean the wipers with
a paper towel.  An amazing quantity of gunk will always come off.
I get about 6 months to a set.

inserts. always fit perfect, always work right.

I went through the same damn thing for years. Tried every brand I could get
my hands on. Spent lots of money, got nowhere. Went back to OEM, problems
disappeared and haven't come back.

And people wonder why I hate aftermarket.

Funny thing, for every repair/replacement on my car, I usually insist on OEM,
I figgered that replacement wipers were as good/better.

I wuz wrong.

When I has a fender-bender three years ago, the only aftermarket
replacement part I allowed to be installed was the bumper rebar. I figured
how could that hurt? It's hidden, right? WRONG!

It was the wrong SHAPE, and it pulled the bumper skin forward and down in
the middle, throwing everything else off! Replacement with an OEM bar
($400) fixed it. Insurance comapny agreed to pay for it too, but that took
six months.

Aftermarket has its place, especially if you know it's the same stuff sold
by the dealer, but under a different name. My rad and windshield are
aftermarket, for example. Such respected posters here as Mista Bone use
aftermarket extensively, but they also know what they're looking at.
Generally I don't trust aftermarket.

Went to my mechanic this morning and told him about the wipers,
he told me to come back in the afternoon, and lo and behold....
a set of used OEM wiper blades with NEW OEM rubbers for $28.

Thanks again, TeGGer®!!

Common aftermarket problems.

Dealer.

If you still have the original wiper blade holders with the skinny steel
strips, replacement rubbers are $5 each. If you need to buy new blade
holders because you threw the old ones out, they're about $35 each and come
with the rubbers. You'll never regret it.

All I have ever done on my 01 Prelude is buy the OEM rubber inserts for a
few dollars from the dealer.  Works just great/

Same here.

Seems like we probably have a dealer-hater here; Slim probably never
even THOUGHT of going to the dealer to get the $7 worth of inserts.
He's probably spent $100 or so up to now, all the while thinking that
dealership are by definition evil or something.

In fact, what I've found is that OEM inserts work better--by FAR--than
anything else.

Hey....my local Honda dealer is PURE SCUM.

My mechanic buys parts from them, but I would never let those
theiving SCUMBAGS near my car after the warranty ran out.

At 18K they "HAD" to replace my "nearly worn-out" brake pads.

My mechanic insists on OEM, but wipers were one of those things that
"I could do myself"....and yup...seems I screwed myslef real good!! LOL!!!!

Thanks for your time! ;-)

Fine and dandy.  Doesn't change the fact that OEM inserts are better
than anything out there.

And I doubt he's scum.

Hey, Tony--what's the matter?  You hate dealers so much, you'll go to
ANY lengths to make them look bad?  Even lying?

They are going to have to pry my cold dead hands off the wheel of my
96 Civic coupe.

Make sure you windshield is clean.  If it isn't, then the best wipers are
going to smear.  Also, if your windshield has a lot of scratches, nothing
short of a new windshield is going to help.

Thanks.

I always keep my windsheild clean, and there are no pits in it.

I got some used OEM holders and got some OEM rubbers and all is fine.
