Hi guys,

I've got a late '92 Honda Prelude that has the ABS light come on after
pressing the brakes a few times. I've got a few questions:

- First of all, is it dangerous to drive the car in this state? i.e. Does
the ABS just get disabled and it's not a big deal, or is there a safety
issue here?

- Second, does anyone have any ideas on what the issue could be and how I
could go about diagnosing it?

Regards,

Glenn.

just means no ABS. brakes will still work fine.

likely the pump not holding pressure, which can be pretty expensive. im
sure the helm manual tells exactly how to test/diagnose it.

Thanks for the info.. In response to the other reply, the mileage is about
140,000 kms (about 90,000 miles), and I'm very friendly with google, this
is just the next stop in my search :)

It's helpful to know your mileage. Anyway, google.com is your friend.

I've posted extesively on this in the past here... mostly to do with
condition of the fluid in the ABS reservoir, replacement by sucking out the
old from the reservoir, and then exercising the system.... worth checking
that anyway since bad fluid rots the seals in the modulator.

Your symptom, where the system shuts down when you press the brake is more
likely a bad wheel sensor.  You need to get the code out of the system.
