but not always. It seems it may be somewhat weather dependant. When
it's hot it's usually bad. Also, often it doesn't smoke at all. I've
cleaned the PCV tube and valve but still get smoke sometimes, it's
bluish.
Are my rings worn?
I understand that if the rings are worn there's little to nothing one
can do about it.
Does a heavier oil help?

Is the breather tube ALSO clean, and are the valve cover baffles not
sludged up?
> Are my rings worn?
If the PCV system is clear, then almost certainly the oil control rings are
worn.
Eventually the oil burning will be consistent. Watch your oil level: It
will go down quickly now.

Correct. Rebuild/replacement time. The rings have worn to the point that
they've relaxed their hold on the cylinder wall.

A 20W-50 *might* help a little. You've got nothing to lose in trying it.

youll need a compression check. do the test, then squirt some oil in the
cylinder and redo the test. if the results are better, then its the rings.
