Richard Gecko - 25 Jul 2005 14:06 GMT My 2003 Pilot took a pretty good hit in the front. Unibody intact, but quarter is panel is nasty. Looking for a good body shop in Dallas.
Suggestions appreciated.
(to the list, please)

MrC1 - 26 Jul 2005 16:32 GMT A-hem, sorry, but have to disagree wholeheartedly!
Herb's SUCKS! They are probably no worse than any of the other "quantity over quality" shops out there, but that is exactly what they are. If you're looking for a quick, low quality repair, Herb's is the place. If you want the vehicle to look 'new', go somewhere else. (I have several negative references to back up my opinion and zero positive ones.)
Not sure where, however. Just make sure to have a look at some completed work beforehand!

Very pleased so far. They actually cleaned up a badly blotched job by Prestige Ford.
Good luck, Phill

jmattis@attglobal.net - 25 Jul 2005 18:38 GMT I dunno.
But at least one of the Honda dealers (Frisco?) sends their bodywork to David McDavid Acura in Plano (They'll work on anything. The Saturn dealer next door sends theirs over too).
McDavid used to do really, really class work, and assigned one individual to take it all the way through. It was literally "better than new." They'd find the smallest problems with a microscope and get it fixed properly.
Now McDavid has a new multi-million dollar downdraft paint facility, and everything is now done piecemeal by lots of people.
The result is: the paint has a pretty decent finish but they put clear coat on too thick. They scraped my perfectly good spoiler by dragging it on the ground (!) and the fix was quite substandard. A lot of the little details were not addressed, even after I pointed them out. They took substantially longer to fix the car than they estimated. And, the delay wasn't all caused by the 2 supplements from the insurance company to address the damage they should have found in the first place. Apparently if you have a non-Acura, they don't always get miscellanenous clips and do-dads in-house, on time, to finish the project.
In short, a fairly poor showing for $4,600. I would have been extremely put out, but ultimately sold the car and the problem. They would be my first choice, but this experience in October 2004 ended that idea.
At least they could put on a good finish. Sewell on LBJ (previously Meiers Infiniti) did a real poor paint job and tried to send me away with a broken fog light, on a $5,000+ job a few years ago. That location is now closed, for good reason.
Steven Krycho - 25 Jul 2005 19:32 GMT Whatever you do, DON"T use Service King. They screw up the wiring in my truck.

Curtis - 25 Jul 2005 22:10 GMT I think it is called Miracle, by Irving mall. The miracle is that these crap faced liars/cheaters/asswipes are still in business.

That >>location is now closed, for good reason. Will - 26 Jul 2005 14:43 GMT I'm not sure which Service King you are talking about, but my friend took his truck to Service King.
And I say Service King DOES suck.
The truck had fairly minor damage....but included hail damage.
S.K. had the truck for over 1 month (it might have been 2 months). It came back without the running board (cause they couldn't find the replacement)...and paint runs, and the pin stripes missing....and a couple of other issues. I think all said, it took him 4 or 5 months working hard with them to get anything done.
I felt sorry for my friend. I'd never take ANYTHING to Service King.

They are consistently higher than anyone else in my experience. I'm talking about a good 15% or more.

85xj6@dallasdrivers.org - 27 Jul 2005 16:42 GMT I recommend Freeway Motors down in the Oak Lawn area. They do mostly Jaguar, BMW, Rolls, Mercedes, and Ferrari. They're the body shop recommended by Jaguar for Dallas as well as the official shop for Overseas Motors. Incredible work.
Scott Van Nest - 25 Jul 2005 21:50 GMT I will second the David McDavid. They took an almost totalled Ody and made it look damn near new. the paint is nice, the person buffing killed it afterwards. but they stood by their work for the warranty period, no questions asked. my insurance bill was $17,000 just to give you an idea. All front end work.

> Best Choice Auto & Body does excellent work. Ryan Huettner - 25 Jul 2005 21:18 GMT Can't recommend highly enough: Stuart's Paint and Body, on Miller Rd.
If they're good enough to do mostly Ferrari and Porsche, you'll be happy with your Pilot.

I also agree with Stuart's. They've done all the work on my vehicles for the past 20 years. Unless they've moved recently; however, they are located on Plano Rd. Rattus The RAT - 26 Jul 2005 04:35 GMT Honestly no idea but for a good Honda repair shop in Dallas, I highly recommend Danny's Import Service in Lewisville, I've lived hell with other jackasses in the area but those guy never disappointed me, very honest and professional. Not exactly close from Downtown but must better than going to a shop close and filled with ignorant a.sholes.

Alex and company did a very nice job on my 3 series after a bonehead in a dump truck merged into his blind spot during stop and go traffic on 635.
