Hello,
Recently went in for an oil change at 35K.
The battery load test failed on my car even
though I appear to have no starting problems.

My questions:
Besides the honda battery (delphi), are there
other good replacement batteries?

I'm looking at:
Everready (by AC delco) $65
Energizer               $60
Bosch                   $79
Diehard                 $79    (Sears)

Is it normal for the battery to fail load test
at only 36K?

THANK YOU!

Mileage has nothing to do with battery life.  How many times has it been
used to start the car?,  run the accessories with the engine off? What sort
of temperatures has it been subjected to?  Is your charging system working
properly? Alternator belt tight? Etc.?

When I lived in Illinois and Ohio, batteries used to last 5-6 years,
occasionally as long as 8.  Here in Dallas with the hot summers, I have
never gotten more than 2.5 years out of a Honda battery (just replaced the
2nd one in the 2000 Acura TL two weeks ago - it lasted within one month and
1000 miles of exactly the same life the original battery had).  The summer
heat here seems to kill them.

Strangely though, OEM batteries in my Nissans are lasting 5-6 years, even
here in Dallas...

Yup. The two primary killers of batteries are
1) Heat
2) Being allowed to run flat.

Are they Panasonic? I've seen amazing lifespans from older Panasonic
batteries.

Not sure what they are.  They are branded Nissan.  They are the
old-fashioned type with 6 individual screw plugs over the cells & they seem
to only come on the Nissans imported from Japan.  As long as you keep the
water up in them, they keep working.

If the screw plugs are red, I'll bet they're Yuasa.

All black.

If my wife ever leaves the '02 Pathfinder home long enough to get a look at
it, I'll see if there's any mfr info on it besides just Nissan.
